No matter how hard you try or how far in advance you begin, it seems as if something in a move always gets lost. Whether the moving crew actually loses a box or great-grandma’s cherished crystal ends up stuffed in with the tools, it seems as if there is no way around the possibility of losing something!

Moving to a new home can be tedious enough even when if you are just moving cross town. But how is it to move to an entirely new country? New customs, new laws and a new language are some of the obstacles you may face, but if you think of the process in smaller steps, the move won’t be quite as daunting.

Yes, you are packing some suitcases with clothing, toothbrushes and shampoo to carry in the car when you move. But don’t neglect to pack a box for the first night necessities that will likely arise. You don’t want to rummage through multiple boxes trying to find a screwdriver or bath towel, so set aside one or two boxes, label them the “first night” boxes, and pack them last on the truck. Those will be the first boxes off the truck and into your new home.
